Internships / Professional Practice & Cooperative Education

The professional practice program provides students with an opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real world problems.

Students majoring in Agriculture are encouraged to complete an internship experience. Although internships are not required, the majority of students in the department do complete at least one experience and some students complete more than one. On average, the department has 36 students participating in the internship program each summer.

Through this program students gain experience in a variety of jobs in the agriculture field. The specific experiences vary from one placement to another. Recent placements have included:

  • Agricultural chemical salespersons
  • Veterinarian assistants
  • Grain merchandisers
  • Commodity market runners
  • Crop consultants and scouts
  • Feed and seed researchers
  • Garden center workers
  • Foreman and sales representatives for landscape contractors
  • Credit analysts

To be eligible for this program students must meet the following requirements:

  • be a major in any agriculture program
  • have a minimum 2.5 GPA
  • have completed 8 hours of course work in the internship area
  • complete an application and have it approved
