The Department of Agriculture at Illinois State University has designed and implemented a contest to provide students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with crop production and marketing.
Four teams representing student organizations
At least five undergraduate students per team
Design and implement their own crop production and marketing strategies on five acres plots at the Illinois State University Farm
Assume that the five acres plot represent 1,000 acres
Soybeans grown in odd years and corn in even years
Teams: decide inputs, management strategies, and complete all work
Soil testing
Seed variety selection
Tillage
Ag chemicals
Equipment
Marketing
Team objective: obtain the highest return to management
Cash Awards, donated by the ISU Agricultural Alumni Association
1st place $300 and the Mycogen Cup Trophy
2nd place $200
3rd place $100
